the story:

when I was nineteen, I had the privilege of traveling with Grand Canyon Youth down the San Juan river for a writing trip. It is an amazing & life changing trip where it's just you, friends, the gorgeous Southwest, the raft, river guides, and an author for an entire week complete with writing workshops, the best food you'll ever taste, and more fun than a kid should be allowed to have!

During this trip I had the privilege of meeting river guide, ex Disney Illustrator, and all around jane-of-all trades, Pamela Mathues. Not only is she one of the most inspiring and deep women that I know who instigated some pretty healthy choices on my end, but she also took the photographs you are seeing above of the 19-year old me in a white dress in the terraces of the river.

This dress has a special significance to Pam. She has been photographing women in it for several years and plans to publish a book of her photographs in the near future. I love how simple this project is and yet how many places it could take you. She literally kept the dress wrapped in a ziploc bag for safekeeping on the river. She chooses her subjects & settings carefully and makes a connection with the people she is photographing. It was a special gift to me to take part in wearing this dress & her great talent. Last week was my first peak at the photographs, I thought I would share them with you!
